I Went Go See Was Cineastes Les Homes - 850 Words
The movie I went to go see was cinà ©astes: les homes. It was about a woman giving an interview to male French filmmakers. The woman asks the males the same question she had asked the females in the previous movie. She had asked them if cinema have a gender most of them answered that they really didnââ¬â¢t know if it did. But most of the men spoke more about the feminism of movies and how females make better actors then men, because they show more emotion then male actors. Most men also asked female director for help writing the female part of the script, because they donââ¬â¢t know how women think. They also feel female directors are better directors because they think like a woman and can have a better perspective on things. Also, most of the men directors focused their films on female audiences because they feel that the females would remember their films more than men. I had chosen to watch this particular film because it was free and the group I went with wanted to see it . My favorite characters in the film would have to be Eric Toledano and Olivier Nackache because, I found them pretty funny. I like how they werenââ¬â¢t afraid to say anything that was on their mind. One of the scenes in the film Olivier said that he was a female underneath and Eric agreed with Olivier and joined in and said he even had long hair. ââ¬Å"The Function Argumentâ⬠is Aristotleââ¬â¢s proposal that the function of being human is the soulââ¬â¢s aspiration for reason.à Aristotle says, If we declare that the function of man is a certain form of life, and define that form of life as the exercise of the soulââ¬â¢s faculties and activities in association with rational principle, and say that the function of a good man is to perform these activities well and rightly, and if a function is well performed when it is performed in accordance with its own proper excellenceââ¬âfrom these premises it follows, that the Good of man is the active exercise of his soulââ¬â¢s faculties in conformity with excellence or virtue, or if there be several human excellences or virtues, in conformity with the best and most perfect among them (Book I, Ch. 7 PP Nic. We will write a custom essay sample on Nicomachean Ethics or any similar topic only for you Order Now +Eth.1098a14-15) Aristotleââ¬â¢s argument essentially stems from chaos.à It is the reaction to a chaotic world where there are many options but very few results.à He is basically recognizing that it is oneââ¬â¢s duty to make rational sense out of the world with which they most immediately identify.à In other words, one must find their purpose, or as Aristotle calls it, their ââ¬Å"souls facultiesâ⬠, and then perform the divine duties of this purpose to the best of their ability.à Therein lies the challenge. The entire purpose of Aritstotle even mentioning this can be found in the challenge of one performing at the height of their craft.à For one to know what they are good at is simply not enough.à Aristote argues that once one has singled out their purpose, they must act on it to the full extent that they are capable.à This is the path to excellence.à Aristotle says, ââ¬Å"the highest good will be the final goal of purposeful striving, something good for its own sake (4). This final good for human beings is eudaimonia (happiness), which is always an end in itself. (6; 15)â⬠à This statement cuts to the core of his argument basically acknowledging that to strive for good for its own sake is to actualize the good nature of oneââ¬â¢s purpose. à He identifies this purpose as happiness.à This is a vague goal, because happiness is an abstract concept, and the exactness of it is entirely dependant on the person pursuing it.à But, key in the statement is the realization that if one does as Aristotle advises and they aspire to perfectly carryout the will of their soul (the work they were designed to perform), than they will committing the most reasonable and rational act. ââ¬Å"To act in accordance with reason is a matter of observing the principle of the mean relative to us (finding the appropriate response between excess and deficiency in a particular situation).â⬠à This denotes an emphasis on moderation.à When Aristotle refers to ââ¬Å"the principle mean relative to usâ⬠he is acknowledging that everyone is different and that individuals must free themselves first from believing their portions are in association with those of everyone else, second from the desire to overindulge. Aristotle rejects Platoââ¬â¢s teachings about Forms in his Nicomachean Ethics because he doesnââ¬â¢t believe the otherworldly aspect of Platoââ¬â¢s theory.à Plato assumes that the human mind contemplates a specific object and its abstract eternal form separately, and he sees this as proof that they both exist separately.à Aristotle argues that just because one can separate forms from objects in their mind it does not mean that they are separate.à Aristotle organizes his critiques of Platoââ¬â¢s Forms in a list of six main arguments three of which he titles: (2) Problems in the Current Beliefs About Moral Strength and Moral Weakness, (5) Moral Weakness and Brutishness (6) Moral Weakness in Anger. In Problems in the Current Beliefs About Moral Strength and Moral Weakness, Aritstotle points out Socrates view that one can not commit an immoral act knowingly.à He talks about the blameless aspect of moral weakness, which he basically opposes and views as opinion. The problems we might raise are. [As to (3):] how can a man be morally weak in his actions, when his basic assumption is correct [as to what he should do]? Some people claim that it is impossible for him to be morally weak if he has knowledge [of what he ought to do] Here it is clear that Aristotle basically feels the term morally weak should not be applied to those who have an understanding of their moral responsibility but lack the willingness to accept it. In Moral Weakness and Brutishness, Aristotle argues that brutishness can not be classified as moral weakness.à He basically constitutes brutishness as habitual wicked acts that arenââ¬â¢t committed in a conscious manner but as the result of disease or cultural tradition. He describes this best when he says, the female who is said to rip open pregnant women and devour the infants; or what is related about some of the savage tribes near the Black Sea, that they delight in eating raw meat or human fleshâ⬠¦these are characteristics of brutishness (pg 228, line 20-25).à Aristotle is very devout in pointing out that as heinous as these acts are these individuals are in a culture where they have no sense that what they are doing is wrong.à He makes this same connection with homosexuality, which he says is often the product of sexual abuse. Aristotleââ¬â¢s argument corresponds with his position on the many and the wise in the sense that he is arguing individuals stay true to their personal nature.à His argument pertaining to the many and the wise is basically that the wise are often find themselves in direct opposition to the many.à Their views are always contrary to popular opinion.à This argument would be the rationale behind the initiative for one to go out on their own and follow the path of their true nature as opposed to the crowd.à It is also a good rationale behind questioning the crowd.à It is a message that promotes free thinking. Ins sum, despite the intent of Aristotleââ¬â¢s argument on function, it does have its weak spots.à Aristotle says, ââ¬Å"Every art or applied science and every systematic investigation, and similarly every action and choice, seem to aim at some good; the good therefore, has been well defined at that at which all things aimâ⬠(1094a).à The problem with this statement is that Aristotle argues that all things aim at the good which is a decree that everything and everyone has positive purpose.à He also stresses a value in community, arguing to improve the quality of life of those out there living and disregarding those who seclude themselves. The problem with Aristotleââ¬â¢s statement arises when one realizes he is trying to force a specific type of divine destiny on people.à While it is true that people can be gifted at positive things that nourish humanity, they can also have talents that degrade or bring down communities as well. Essentially Aristotle might argue that everyone has a function to coincide with the function of society, but it would be arrogant to assume there is no one alive whose sole talent is to earn money, or eat the most hot dogs, or even look attractive.à Essentially Aristotle is arguing that we must lead a life that is influential.à While it is inspiring to imagine that all people have a good purpose in life, society fails to imply the same message. These racial groups stood firm to fight against what they perceived as mistreatment. The revolution finally hit the island with the black race led by Congo Hoango who was a former aide of Monsieur Guillaume de Villeneuve plantation. Congo Hoango was enraged by the previous mistreatment of the white master. He was filled with the feeling of vengeance against the white masters and the entire white race in general. At the beginning of the revolution, Hoango used an opportunity to take revenge on his own master. The master changed his attitude to Hoango after he had rescued him from death. Hoango executed his master together with the entire masterââ¬â¢s family. In addition, he took all masterââ¬â¢s property and started his crucial mission to wipe out the white race. He used the old woman and her beautiful daughter to deceive whites and ensnare them into their death den. The whole revolution was founded on the hatred between the white and black racial groups. The revolution marked the dismantling of the chains of oppression that the black and Cr eole races had been subjected to for many centuries. The revolution was a revenge for reprehensible ill-treatment by the masters of the island (Kleist 241). The revolution by the blacks led to the massive massacre of the white race. In addition, there was a massive exodus of the white people from the island. The French army, which was also another oppressive force in the island, was finally conquered by General Dessalines. The black race misunderstood the oppression committed by their white masters as discrimination against them. That is why they massacred the white people without understanding the genesis of the mistreatment. The black race misunde rstood the mistreatment by masters and interpreted it as if the entire white race was oppressive. The black peopleââ¬â¢s attitude towards the white race is the major source of prejudice. Their vengeance mission is grounded on the misjudgment that the entire white generation was responsible for their miseries on the island. Conclusion Despite warm treatment accorded to Congo Hoango by his master, he still held a negative attitude towards the white generation. This prompted him to kill his masterââ¬â¢s family during the revolution. Hoango was relentless in his quest to wipe out the white generation (Kleist 231). In her attempt to save Gustav from the fatal danger, Toni tied him up, but he interpreted it as a sign of mistrust. Toni was out to save him from the looming death and went ahead to kill her.
